Thursdays 7.00 - 8.30pm

Regular meditation classes in New Plymouth with lay teacher Gill Danson.

Gill Danson, from Amitabha Centre leads the drop-in meditation class in New Plymouth at Community House, 32 Leach St, New Plymouth on Thursday nights from 7.00 - 8.30pm

 The class includes guided meditations, teachings and discussion. You can speak to Gill on 06 761 8878 or email amitabha@xtra.co.nz  if you have any questions.

There is no need to book and beginners are welcome. The suggested donation is $12 per class or $40 for four sessions.

 FROM 23 FEBRUARY  REGULAR CLASSES START

Enjoy meditations and teachings that emphasise the practical application of Buddha's teachings. Learn methods to bring real benefit in day to day life. Although ideal to follow a sequence of classes,attend as you are able.

23 February & 1, 8  March Transforming our Relationships

In this course we will explore how Buddhist meditation has the power to profoundly improve and transform our relationships. Our relationships with our partner, family, friends colleagues etc often give rise to many challenges that expose our own anger, expectations, as well as old feelings of resentment and unhappiness with ourself. Through meditation learn to let go of painful attitudes and instead gradually replace them with love, respect for others, patience and kindness. Learning to apply these minds is the key to long-term, meaningful and joyful relationships.

15, 22, 29 March & 5,26 April  A New Perspective on Life 

We all long for happiness. Our normal perspective on life, however prevents us from finding that happiness. We see happiness as depending on things outside ourself. Buddha taught that happiness lies within the mind.

Guided by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's most recent book, Modern Buddhism, we will learn to connect with the extraordinary power of the mind. In particular in this series we will be looking at how to let go of our inhibiting fears and anxieties and instead respond to the difficulties of our life with wisdom and skill. 

 

3, 10, 17, 24, 31 May          Overcoming Anger 

 In this busy modern world, our experiences of happiness are fleeting and short-lived, while inner peace eludes us. Our uncontrolled states of mind such as anger create endless problems for ourself and others.

Based on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's book How to Solve Our Human Problems we shall examine why we become angry. We shall learn methods to reduce and finally eradicate our anger by engaging in simple meditation techniques.

 

14, 21, 28 June Recognising What's Possible

 Learn how to grow a mind of pure love. Pure unconditional love never causes any pain or worry but only peace and joy.
