One-to- three day individual retreats at the Amitabha Centre offer you the chance to take time out for meditation, reading and contemplation, with guidance from our resident teacher Demo in planning how you might spend your time on retreat, and in finding the resources that will help you. (It is very much up to you how you want to organise your time, and what you wish to work on, so it is, in a sense, a sort of 'do-it-yourself' retreat - but with kind advice and support from Demo when you need it.)
It is open to those who are relatively new to meditation, as well as those who have more experience. If you are new to Kadampa Buddhism and meditation, you should probably try to come along to one or more of our drop-in classes to get a taste of what we offer, and an idea of the sort of focus you might want for your retreat.
You can enjoy the use of the meditation room and relax in the garden, living room or your bedroom. You can choose whether to practice silence for all or part of the time you are on retreat; and if you are here on the weekend you are welcome to join Heart Jewel (Saturday: 8.30 – 9.30am) and/or Prayers for World Peace (Sunday: 10 – 10.30am)
If you stay during the week, you are invited to join our general weekly class (Wednesday: 7 – 8.30pm) and/or Heart Jewel (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 7.30 - 8.30am).
(Demo is happy to talk to you about the whys and wherefores of retreats if you are feeling uncertain about whether such a retreat could be 'right' for you.)
